Coptic Orphans
Coptic Orphans is an award-winning international Christian development organization that has touched the lives of over 20,000 children in Egypt since 1988.We believe that through long term programs that focus on education, we can affect the vicious cycle of poverty.
We want every child in Egypt to confidently face the future with hope on a strong foundation of education, health, and equality. We want every Copt in the Diaspora (living outside of Egypt) to be committed to serving God through strengthening the homeland.
As an organization we are rooted in our faith. Coptic Orphans is a fruit of the Coptic Orthodox Church. We are in accordance with Acts 6:1-7, which says to carry out the calling of the laity of the church to be salt and light in the world through our professional service. We both belong to the body of Christ and are professionals using the best natural gifts that God has given us – to serve Him - and all of His children.
We are a child development organization, rather than an economic or community development agency. This means that, without ignoring economic and community problems that contribute to child poverty, our main focus is on developing the potential of individual children through education, because it is the best way to help others make permanent improvements for themselves and their communities.
We place more priority on the fatherless because of their more immediate obstacles, and because the family nature of those obstacles make those obstacles easier to address.
Our partnership with the Coptic Church allows us to become part of the lives of people in villages from the Mediterranean ocean to Egypt’s southern border near Sudan, even remote regions that we would not otherwise reach. Bishops from the Coptic Orthodox Church from all levels have expressed their support and encouragement for our work, including His Holiness Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria, who told us, "As it says in the midnight prayers, you ‘remember those who have no one to remember them."
We intend to reach 100,000 children – with God’s grace – it’s only a matter of time.
