Program Description

Go abroad as an Intern in Salta, Argentina

Description

Despite its overall wealth, Argentina is a nation struggling to rectify the desperation caused by the 2001 economic crisis, the impact of the thousands who "disappeared" during the violent military dictatorship, and the clash of classes between indigenous groups and Spanish descendants.

Following the economic crash, one of the largest in modern world history, more than 50 percent of the population fell below the poverty line, creating a host of development issues that are being addressed by FSD and its partner organizations.

Highlights

Recent Interns in Argentina Have:

- Cooperated with the local Department of Agriculture to recover traditional crops, support regional biodiversity, convert retired railroad lines into biodiversity zones, and assist local farmers.

- Provided basic health care services and advocated public health policy reform to include more vulnerable populations.

- Spearhead book drives, funding research, and other program enhancing initiatives to support a community library for vulnerable children.
