My experience in Brazil was amazing in the sense that I had the chance to meet great people who, as me, were trying to help the local community develop its orphanage. Although the conditions were really bad, I had a great time learning English to the small Brazilian girls and roaming with them in the courtyard. The worst aspect of my experience was the lack of help from the staff, who seemend to have forgotten us in our neighbourhood and who rarely did something practically useful to improve our situation. perhaps it was just because the Brazilian site is still very small, but I really have to say that my expectations were for much more. In order to survive you have to be really tough, but it's for sure worth it.
