Volunteer teaching English in Costa Rica
Description
This volunteer program is set in the small village of San Francisco, nestled between the Caribbean Ocean and a tropical rainforest. Volunteers plan and run lessons and assist with English language education for the community members. The local community of San Francisco, near to the world famous Tortuguero National Park and turtle nesting beach, rely on tourism as their main source of income, so English is essential for their day-to-day business. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn basic Spanish and work with children and adults and experience Costa Rican culture. Volunteers will also supply additional resources to an under-resourced school, and may be required to assist with other lessons and extra-curricular activities.
Volunteers may choose to spend a weekend or two exploring this amazing region and enjoying its many attractions and activities, including stunning beaches, rainforest canopy tours and white water rafting.
How this program makes a difference
San Francisco is is located in the area of Tortuguero, close the the world famous National Park of Tortuguero. This beautiful area relies heavly on the presence of ecotourism. The GVI English teaching programme focuses on building local capacity by providing English language and environmental education to the local people, so they can maximise from the benefits of local development and tourism. GVI works closely with the local community and schools. This English language education assists in providing local people with viable employment alternatives, who have previously had little or no opportunity.

Witnessing some of the fantastic wildlife of the area such as sea turtles, toucans, monkeys and more. Seeing the direct impact you can have in a short time frame. Taking extra time to explore the wonders of Costa Rica.
