Program Description
Business and Livelihood in The Gambia
Description
The National Beekeeping Association of the Gambia (NBAG) was formed in November 2002. It is a non-profit making organization that is focused on promoting the beekeeping industry within The Gambia. NBAG has so far managed to develop a product range, centralize quality control, provide affordable high quality equipment, run beekeeping training workshops and promote beekeeping to a wide range of interested parties including, The forestry department, UNDP, Peace Cops and Concern Universal.
Highlights
Our volunteers are currently providing business support to NBAG and helping them to train their staff. The future aims of NBAG are firstly to decentralize operations through the establishment of local project sites. Secondly to establish a micro-finance operation to provide invaluable start-up capital to new beekeepers on 'fair' terms and thirdly the association will stimulate the supply of honey by building a rural-urban supply chain to ensure honey producers get the best price.
In each country we have a local manager. We are very careful over security and health issues, and upon arrival you will be met at the airport by our manager and taken through an induction and to your placement to settle in.
