Program Description

Kaya Volunteer Programs in Ghana

Description

Ghana is in need of volunteers to help build key infrastructure in local communities. This is very rewarding work for volunteers to be involved in. Projects vary from building houses for underprivileged families, orphans and children to building ramps for disabled wheel chair access or even cementing floors in your own home-stay. You don't need to be a builder by trade but a hard work ethic and plenty of enthusiasm are a great asset.

We look forward to having you join us on one of our many volunteer programs in Ghana!

Interview with Kwasi, Kaya Program Director in Ghana

GO: How did you come to work for Kaya Volunteer in Ghana?

Kwasi: I came into contact with Kaya through the Centre for International Studies (CIS), a study abroad service provider base in the United States. I initially applied to CIS to be their site coordinator in Ghana, but after going through the first interview they ask me if I would consider being the site coordinator for Kaya. Of course I said yes!

GO: What can volunteers do after their time in Ghana to continue making a difference?

Kwasi: I think what a volunteer can do after their time in Ghana has to do with how the volunteer will open up to the people that she/he will working with. As a person I take every situation as a learning process. You have to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way to learn more about the culture, travel around and visit places of interest and also learn from the people that you will be working with.

GO: Describe a typical Kaya volunteer.

Kwasi: A typical volunteer in Ghana is the one that will devote all of his/her time in doing voluntary work or service without asking for any material reward.
