Day in the Life of a Volunteer in Wyoming, USA
Tara Groenig, Real Gap Experience volunteer alum
Tara Groenig is from Cornwall, England and is about to finish her final year at the University of Birmingham having studied Law and Business there. She enjoys any form of horse-riding, caring for her horse and travelling. She volunteered in Wyoming from August 15, 2010 - September 3, 2010.
The highlights of my trip were creating a bond with one of the horses, who despite her physical imperfections was the fastest little beast on the ranch. I was very upset to say goodbye to her and am yet to persuade my parents to pay the £5,000 it would cost to ship her over to the UK (like a previous volunteer did)!
Although internet access was available I enjoyed feeling like we were in our own little bubble with no news, television or mobile signal. Although I understand that this is not for everybody. Away from the ranch I enjoyed going to Yellowstone National Park - although no bear sightings were made - and going on the tour to see Cody's wild mustangs.
However, my continuing highlight is that I made one of my best friends on the ranch and we have since been on holiday together and plan to travel more extensively in the future, with a return to the ranch definitely on the cards.
